If you’re age 18 to 22, today’s news is good for you: United Airlines announced a 10% discount for young adults Tuesday.
To get the discount, there are a few other requirements:
- Passengers must be MileagePlus Members.
- Passengers must list their birth date in their MileagePlus profile.
- The flight must be booked through United’s mobile app.
- Seats selected for the flight must be in economy.
- Reservations can include only one passenger.
The promotion applies to all travel booked before Dec. 31, as long as it meets the above criteria. Tickets within the USA, Canada and Mexico are eligible to be discounted under the promotion. Some additional international destinations are included in the discount.
“The reason why we’re doing this is we’re really interested in starting a relationship with newer, younger customers,” Will Ellingson, principal of planning and integration for MileagePlus, told USA TODAY.

To continue its efforts to connect to the younger generation, United offers “point-to-point” flights between cities for college football games, which will be eligible for the 10% discount.
One of the other things the airline has noticed Generation Z is interested in, Ellingson said, is environmentally conscious travel.
And for the first 25,000 flights traveled as a part of the promotion, the airline is going to offset carbon emissions through its Eco-Skies program, Ellingson said.
