Airbnb Experiences adds classes with Guinness World Records holders

Airbnb has created the opportunity for the public to come face to face with Guinness World Records holders through its new Experiences collection, it announced in a release Thursday.

For the “first time ever” people can learn from record holders through workshops or activities available for booking through Airbnb.

The experiences range from exploring the largest collection of trolls to power breaking with the “World’s Most Powerful Couple.” The events take place in locations spanning the globe and at different price points from $12 to $152 per session per person, for varying group sizes.

Elizabeth Montoya, senior public relations manager for Guinness World Records North America, told USA TODAY that Airbnb Experiences are “unlocking a different side of destinations through the eyes of locals, and these individuals are providing a new way for people to experience a destination or the city they call home.”

Those featured in the collection include 15 title holders from recent years, Montoya said.

World’s most expensive milkshake

Joe Calderone, a creative chef at Serendipity 3 in New York City, has lost count of all of his Guinness World Records, he told USA TODAY.

One of his latest records is the World’s Most Expensive Milkshake, which you can taste and learn about by booking a five hour “experience” through Airbnb for $100 per person.

Created originally for National Vanilla Ice Cream Day, the LUXE Milkshake contains Tahitian vanilla ice cream, 23 karat edible gold, Le Cremose Baldizzone (also called donkey caramel sauce), Devonshire luxury clotted cream and other ingredients and is served in a glass covered in more than 3,000 Swarovski® crystals.

For the experience, guests will sit at a VIP table where Marilyn Monroe once sat, according to the event page, while being served the shake and learning about its ingredients.

“It will be kind of like making the milkshake along with me and creating it,” Calderone said.

He said he was looking forward to sharing the shake with his guests and explaining the nuances in the flavor.

“These days everything is about the experience of something,” Calderone said.

Largest Hula-Hoop spun

Getti Kehayova, 41, is another of the Experiences hosts. She holds the record for Largest Hula Hoop Spun for females.

She told USA TODAY that she started Hula-Hooping while she was growing up in the circus. Kehayova, her father, her mother and her sister were all acrobats. They traveled the world while performing as she grew up.

Now, living in Las Vegas, she works backstage at Cirque du Soleil . She also teaches Hula-Hoop fitness classes.

When she heard about the Guinness World Record for largest Hula-Hoop spun, she decided to try to break it. The idea of breaking a world record isn’t new to her though.

“My family, we already have Guinness World Records,” she said. “My older sister has a record for most Hula-Hoops.”

When Airbnb contacted Kehayova about providing an experience for tourists visiting Las Vegas with her Hula-Hoop, she was thrilled.

“I can show them the big hula hoop and teach them how to spin regular Hula-Hoops,” she said. She’ll even let them test her world-record-breaking hoop, she said.

It’ll be something different for any visitors to the area, and participants will get a workout in, she said.

To experience an hour of Hulap-Hooping with Kehayova costs $85 per person.

“This collection gives the 15 title-holders and others the opportunity to share their story and inspire a broad audience through their Airbnb Experience,” Montoya said.
