Folks in Hollywood had much to buzz about on social media Tuesday following a surprising announcement that prosecutors dropped all charges against “Empire” star Jussie Smollett. The actor had pleaded not guilty on a 16-count indictment of lying to police about an alleged homophobic and racist attack against him.
“See y’all Wednesday,” tweeted the official “Empire” writers’ account, along with an image of a CNN breaking news headline that reads “Prosecutors drop all charges against actor Jussie Smollett.”
“There are lots of things we apparently should not pre-judge before we have all the facts, like Jussie Smollett (all charges dropped?!) and the Mueller report (not yet public!!)” wrote “Star Trek” actor George Takei.
Others made light of the situation.
“If Jussie isn’t cast in the Lifetime movie of this debacle, then what are we doing, honestly,” wrote comedian Natasha Rothwell.
“JUST IN: R. Kelly has just hired Jussie Smolletts (legal) team,” wrote actor Michael Rapaport.
“Aunt Becky showing up to Jussie Smollett’s attorneys’ office like…” tweeted lawyer @aaferiat.
“Fox Nation” host Tomi Lahren wrote that “hate crimes are unacceptable and so are fake hate crimes.”
She added: “Charges dropped for Jussie? Really?”
“The View” co-host Ana Navarro criticized prosecutors for dropping charges “at their discretion,” despite investigators finding evidence that “unequivocally concluded Smollett committed the hoax.”
“I guess it is entirely possible someone can get away with criminal activity without facing justice,” she added.
