Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open at Disneyland on May 31and Walt Disney World on August 29.
Forget FastPass. You know what Disneyland and Disney World absolutely, positively need at its their new Stars Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land?
The bathroom pass.
That’s right, an elegant plastic card that can transport you from the middle of an hours-long line to what is truly the Happiest Place on Earth when you really have to go.
And when you’re finished with business, that same pass magically reunites you with your party without the usual nasty looks as you pardon and excuse yourself through the line that probably only got longer during the time you stepped away.
Consider it a hall pass for the theme-park crowd.
What if you’re in line when nature calls?
Disney created a bathroom pass for Avatar Flight of Passage, an attraction at Disney World in Florida that routinely has waits of two or three hours. That can be daunting for any well-hydrated person, especially one who just downed a Night Blossom, a Na’vi special. (Imagine drinking liquid Skittles.)
There you are, an hour and several switchbacks in. If you step out of line, how are you going to make your way back without drawing attention as an apparent line-cutter?
That’s where the official Queue Re-Entry pass comes in.
How the Queue Re-Entry pass works
Leaving at least one person behind to hold your place, find a cast member and explain the situation.
You will be given a pass the size of a credit card attached to a lanyard. On it are the name of the attraction, the words “Queue Re-Entry” and, prominently, the silhouette of a running person. It may not say “Bathroom Pass,” but everyone will know why you need it.
Wear the pass proudly on your errand, letting everyone know you have important places to go.
When you return to the line, flash the pass at the cast member at the FastPass entrance. Join that shorter, faster-moving line until you reach the point where it merges with the standby line.
There you will wait in the Bathroom Pass Corral. (OK, it’s just a small waiting area, but everyone will know how you landed there.) When your party arrives, you rejoin them to complete your journey.
But what if your friends and family are already past that point by the time you return? You’re out of luck. Hope your bladder’s happy.
Is it coming to Star Wars land?
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open at Disneyland on May 31 and Walt Disney World on Aug. 29.
But so far, Disney has said nothing about expanding the Queue Re-Entry program. But if the waits for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge are close to what is expected, the pass should be an integral part of the experience.
Because when you really have to go, using the Force isn’t going to be enough.
