To celebrate their new album “Mystic Truth,” Los Angeles rockers Bad Suns – consisting of vocalist Christo Bowman, guitarist Ray Libby, bassist Gavin Bennett, and drummer Miles Morris – share a playlist of favorites with USA TODAY.
“Everybody Hurts” – R.E.M.
A timeless classic. This is my idea of a perfect song. — Christo
“Let Down” – Radiohead
This one lives in my top 5 Radiohead songs, and like countless other Radiohead tracks, is single-tear worthy. – Miles
“Title and Registration” – Death Cab for Cutie.
We have listened to a good amount of Death Cab on this tour. Great song. – Ray
“San Jacinto” – Peter Gabriel
The opening sounds in this song were hugely influential to us while writing this record. We also rented a house in Palm Desert with a giant window facing the San Jacinto Mountain Peak while we demoed some songs for this album, and would listen to this in the mornings as the sun rose on the mountain. – Gavin
“No Wrong” – Bahamas
Few songs summon human emotion as pristinely as this one does. You’re placed right inside the artist’s headspace. – Christo
“Harmony Hall” – Vampire Weekend
I’ve been liking this new song from Vampire Weekend. The guitars sound great, and the chorus has a really fun vibe. – Ray
“Kingdom” – City Calm Down
Don’t listen to this song while riding your bike. It will convince you you’re invincible. You’re not. – Miles
“Hejira” – Joni Mitchell
Beautiful song. Centered in an album known for its bass lines, the opening run in this song is definitely one of my favorites of all time. – Gavin
“Road Head” – Japanese Breakfast
I haven’t been able to shake this song for the past several months. It sinks in deep and stays there. – Christo
“Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes” – Paul Simon
Love this song’s energy. We listen to it in the green room before our shows to get excited to play. – Ray
