None of the judges expected this final “Masked Singer” reveal. SPOILER ALERT: This video includes season finale results.
T-Pain is unmasking his initial thoughts of Fox’s hit singing competition show for which he was named the victor last month.
The “Buy U a Drank” artist was at a loss for why he decided to join “The Masked Singer” on “Today” Friday.
“I really don’t know. ‘Cause it was a weird pitch,” he said, “I may not have been sober when I heard it, but it worked out.”
T-Pain, 33, was one of 12 stars, like Gladys Knight and Donny Osmond, who performed while their identities were concealed by elaborate costumes. “The Masked Singer” was adapted from a Korean program.
“Just think of trying to pitch that show to somebody,” T-Pain said. “At first, when I heard it, I was like, ‘Man, this is probably the stupidest thing I ever heard in my life,’ but it worked out.”
The musician said he was sold on his Monster costume – a furry, aquamarine get-up featuring one eye – which he wanted to wear at least once.
“I was planning on getting kicked off the first episode,” he said on “Today.”
“I didn’t really get into it until I saw the choices for the costume. Once I saw Monster, I was like, ‘I just want to wear that thing.’ I wasn’t going to pass by that Monster,” he said.
T-Pain also shared why he thinks he came out on top.
“I think I was the most fun. Everybody was so serious, concentrating on their singing or their performance,” he said. “I was there to have fun. I don’t want to say I didn’t care, but it was like a nonchalant, ‘If I’m going, I’m going to go out with a bang.'”
