Weekends are the best. You don’t have to set an alarm if you don’t want, you can get a bunch of stuff done, or you can spend the days relaxing and having fun. One of my favorite weekend activities? Online window shopping. You never know when that thing you’ve been wanting for ages is finally going to go on sale, so it’s good to poke around and see what might be out there.
Amazon has tons of deals every day, but they’re not always on the best items (or for the best discounts). How can you tell? Well, you can look at customer reviews and ratings, sure. But that’s only half the picture, and it’s not always accurate. So we dive deeper and look at historical pricing on products we know people love and that are actually quality items. We also look to the Reviewed team, who have tested literally thousands of different products to find out how well they actually work, for guidance on what to avoid and what’s worth buying.
1. Under $60: The most popular DNA testing kit
If you’ve ever been curious to learn more about your heritage, you’ll be happy to hear Ancestry is running a sale on its genetic testing kit both on Ancestry.com and on Amazon, knocking $40 off the price tag and matching the second best sale price we’ve ever seen. The sale is in honor of St. Patrick’s Day next weekend, so if you’ve ever thought (or claimed) you were Irish, it’s time to put your money where your mouth is.
Regardless of where you are (or might be) from, this DNA testing kit is a top option. Ancestry has a massive database of more than 10 million users, which not only increases the odds of connecting with a long lost relative, but also makes your genetic mapping even more accurate, and they’re always updating things so your information actually gets more accurate over time.
You can even get the newest Ancestry feature, Traits, with your DNA kit for an extra $10. Traits is always $10 on top of the testing kit, but since the kit’s on sale, it’s still a great bargain.
2. Under $100: Everyone’s favorite Instant Pot
If you don’t have an Instant Pot yet, what the heck are you waiting for? This electric pressure cooker can replace your slow cooker and your rice cooker, which is great if you’re low on storage. But more importantly, pressure cooking makes quick (seriously quick) work of anything. You can even cook frozen chicken in a fraction of the time. Right now, the larger size of the most popular model is $50 off! This is absolutely perfect if you’ve got a big family or you’re a meal-prepping machine. If you don’t need 8 quarts of cooking space, the 6-quart model is the same price right now. That’s only a $10 discount, but still more than worth it.
3. Under $30: An award-winning cool mist humidifier
When it’s cold and dry, winter air has us all coughing up a storm. But you can reduce some of the dryness in your home with a humidifier while you wait for spring—and it’s great when you’re cranking the A/C all summer too. This ultrasonic cool mister from Crane is one of our favorite humidifiers. We gave it our Editors’ Choice award because this model was able to raise the humidity in a room by 20 percent and it can run for up to 15 hours on full blast. It also comes in six different colors, and following an $8 price drop in late February, right now it’s on sale for the lowest price we’ve seen since last spring.
4. Under $50: One of the best instant cameras
Remember how fun it was to snap Polaroids of you and your friends back in the day? Tapping a button on a smartphone screen just doesn’t have the same feeling. Sure, it’s easy, but those memories get lost in your photo album or you post them on Instagram and never think about them again. With an instant camera, you can enjoy the good old days again, or introduce your kids to the ancient ritual of holding and admiring a physical photograph.
Fujifilm is the kind of instant photography these days, and the Instax Mini 9 is the best affordable instant camera they (or anyone else) offer. Right now you can get an Ice Blue or Flamingo Pink camera for just $45, the absolute best price we’ve ever seen. Considering these originally retailed for $70, this may just be my favorite deal of the weekend. And if you want one of the other three colors they offer, they are also at great low prices ($49-$50)
5. Under $15: The best aromatherapy diffuser
If you want your home to smell delightful, but you’re not a fan of candles or incense, check out the best aromatherapy diffuser we’ve ever tested. We really love that it has a larger than average water reservoir so it can run longer, up to 9 hours continuously or 11 hours on the intermittent setting. But it’s also super affordable at its typical $16, and right now, it’s even more appealing because it’s back down to its lowest price.
The small size, slim design, and multi-color light options are icing on the cake of this sweet deal. A lot of our readers have also been snapping up this set of six essential oils to enjoy with their diffusers. It includes lemongrass, peppermint, orange, eucalyptus, lavender and tea tree scents.
