Should you start with a beer and then have some wine, or is it more prudent to do it the other way around? Buzz60’s Tony Spitz has the details.
A Virginia brewery says its new beer is “magically ridiculous.”
Smartmouth Brewing Company will release “Saturday Morning,” a limited-edition IPA with marshmallows, at noon Saturday at its Norfolk tasting room.
The 6.6 percent ABV beer is “brewed with in-house toasted marshmallows and bulk dehydrated-marshmallow-bits,” said Chris Neikirk, brewery spokesperson, in a statement to USA TODAY. “It has been hopped and dry-hopped with Galaxy and Calypso hops.”
The beer will be available on draft or in cans and distributed throughout Virginia to limited restaurants, bars and specialty bottle shops, Neikirk said. Smartmouth is unable to ship beer.
“The nose is sweet and citrus, with orange and pear aromas,” Neikirk said. “It has a soft pillowy body with a slight cereal taste.”
That cereal taste and the “magically ridiculous” slogan – a play on Lucky Charms’ magically delicious – is highlighted on the beer can, which looks like the box of the popular children’s cereal.
However, Neikirk said, the brewery is “not marketing to children.”
“It is just a beer evoking nostalgia in adults who remember days when Saturday mornings were a time that you sat around watching cartoons and playing games,” Neikirk said.
Smartmouth also has a Chocolate Chip Cookie Milk Stout that has cocoa nibs and vanilla in it.
“It is still beer – and will taste like beer,” Neikirk said.
