President Donald Trump wants Congress to pass legislation to prohibit late-term abortion.
President Donald Trump addressed the nation with his State of the Union address Tuesday. Many celebrities tuned in, some chose to boycott.
Regardless, actors and TV personalities alike took to Twitter to share their opinions on Trump’s speech, from his push for a border wall to his anti-abortion agenda, or to talk about what they were watching instead.
In a series of tweets, actress and activist Alyssa Milano slammed Trump’s “inflammatory, shaming rhetoric,” adding that “every day, women across America face deeply personal decisions of whether or not to continue a pregnancy.”
“@RealDonaldTrump and his minions in the @GOP want to take away the most fundamental freedom women have: freedom of their own bodies,” she tweeted. “Government doesn’t get any bigger than when it is in a uterus. Stand for choice. Stand for freedom. #StateOfTheWoman #WeWontGoBack”
The “Charmed” alum also tweeted about affordable health care, trans rights, immigration, the press and the border wall: “If @realdonaldtrump is serious about uniting us, he should remember one crucial thing: walls divide.”
“Full Frontal” host Samantha Bee was convinced that “Nancy Pelosi is 100% reading a Jodi Picoult novel back there.”
While “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah joked about Pelosi’s hand gesture: “Not the first time Trump has got the clap.”
Actress Elizabeth Banks sent her congratulations to the “Congresswomen for representing.” She added that their coordinated all-whiteapparel was “awesome.”
Meanwhile, Chrissy Teigen opted to tune into another show during the president’s speech. “Now watching: state of below deck reunion,” she tweeted.
“Watch What Happens Live” host Andy Cohen apparently was on the same page. He tweeted Bravo’s, “Below Deck Reunion > SOTU.”
“The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert tuned into Netflix: “I loved watching the #SOTU tonight. It was my favorite episode of ‘Russian Doll.'”
“Insecure” star Natasha Rothwell focused on Stacey Abrams, who delivered the Democratic party’s rebuttal to Trump’s speech.
“Look at @staceyabrams delivering the truth and not selling lies,” she tweeted.
